simple reception ideas

Stick drinks, also known as caprioskas, are cocktails made by mashing fruits and sugar together with a stick. I use the other side of a wooden kitchen spoon. You can use almost any fruit as long as you include chopped limes and sugar. These are two of my favorites.

LIME AND MINT STICK DRINK (right)

12 large mint leaves
2 teaspoons brown sugar
1 lime, finely diced, including skin
ice cubes
2 large shots Bacardi rum
club soda

cocktail shaker or pitcher
2 cocktail glasses

Put the mint leaves, sugar, and lime into a shaker or pitcher and mash with a stick or spoon until quite pulpy. Alternatively use a mortar and pestle.
Fill 2 glasses with ice to chill them thouroughly, then tip the ice into the mashed mint mixture. Add the Bacardi to the mixture, shake well, then pour back into the glasses. Add a little club soda and serve. Serves 2.

KIWIFRUIT, PEACH AND LIME STICK DRINK (left)

1 large lime, diced
1 large kiwifruit, peeled and diced
12 mint leaves
3 teaspoons sugar
1 peach, peeled and diced
ice cubes
2 large shots vodka

cocktail shaker or pitcher
2 cocktail glasses

Put the lime and kiwifruit into shaker or pitcher, add the mint, sugar and peach. Mash well until pulpy.
Fill 2 glasses with ice to chill them thoroughly, then tip the ice into the kiwifruit mixture. Add the vodka, shake or stir well, then pour back into the glasses. Serves 2.
